Kelowna wildfire season, explained

The Okanagan burns between roughly July and September, when the valley's dry summers and steep, forested slopes combine. Kelowna sits in the Kamloops Fire Centre, and fires well outside city limits still matter here — the 2023 McDougall Creek fire started across the lake in West Kelowna and forced thousands from their homes. That is why this page tracks a 150 km radius rather than the city boundary.

What the stage-of-control labels mean

Out of control — spreading beyond the control line.
Being held — not expected to grow past the control line under current conditions.
Under control — will not spread further.
