About Kelowna IQ
Kelowna IQ is an independent civic intelligence dashboard for Kelowna, British Columbia. It aggregates public data on the local economy, housing, City Council, crime, and community sentiment, refreshes it daily, and presents it in plain language so residents, journalists, and policymakers can see how the city is changing in real time.

What we cover
Seven public dashboards: an overview of headline indicators, plus dedicated pages for business, council and policy, crime, housing and development, news and community sentiment, and real estate. Each page reports the latest available numbers, the period-over-period change, and the underlying source.
Data sources
- Business and economy
- City of Kelowna Open Data Portal (business licences), Statistics Canada (population, labour, GDP estimates).
- Housing and development
- Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (housing starts, completions, average prices for the Kelowna Census Metropolitan Area), City of Kelowna (building permits, rezoning applications).
- Real estate
- Association of Interior REALTORS (monthly market reports), public listings via Realtor.ca.
- Council and policy
- City of Kelowna meeting agendas, minutes, motions, and bylaws.
- Crime and safety
- Statistics Canada Table 35-10-0018-01 (Crime Severity Index, police-reported offences for the Kelowna CMA).
- News and sentiment
- Local news RSS feeds (Castanet, KelownaNow, CBC BC, Kelowna Capital News) and posts from r/Kelowna for community sentiment.
How we update
ETL pipelines run automatically: news and community sentiment refresh hourly; business licences and building permits refresh daily; council meetings refresh weekly on Tuesdays; real estate listings and sales refresh on the 1st and 15th of each month; CMHC housing and Statistics Canada crime data refresh when the underlying sources publish new releases.
Accuracy and corrections
Numbers shown on each dashboard are the latest values available from the source on the last refresh. When the source revises historical data, Kelowna IQ picks up the revision on the next refresh. If you spot a discrepancy, email hello@kelownaiq.ca.
